At the Annual Parish Meeting, the Town Mayor presented cheques of £1,500 to each of her two chosen charities - Macmillan Nursing and Leukaemia Research. These charities are both close to the hearts of the Mayor and her Consort, Councillor Stewart Dobson.

A presentation at the Annual Parish Meeting was made by Alek Sagar on behalf of the Royal British Legion - a beautifully framed ceramic poppy from the recent award-winning commemorative display at the Tower of London. This has been generously given to Marlborough and will be on display in the Town Hall very soon.

Work starts w/c 23rd March to create a new wetland and pond at Stonebridge Meadow. This will feature a bed of marshy reeds with a boardwalk running over them and a pond. As well as creating an interesting place for people to visit, the reed bed will naturally clean water that runs off surrounding roads before it reaches the river.
Volunteers are welcome to help with planting. Please read the full press release for all the details.

The Town Council is continuing its work to scope out a Neighbourhood Plan for Marlborough. This process provides a statutory right for local people to influence development and growth in their area. Within parameters, they are able to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built, have their say on what those new buildings should look like and what infrastructure should be provided. This process is a long one involving plenty of consultation but, once a plan is published, it becomes part of the planning system for helping to determine planning applications.
Town Councillors have met with representatives from the Malmesbury Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group who have worked through the process and now have a Plan in place - the first in Wiltshire. This was a really useful meeting and will help to provide a template to take our own Plan forward. The next step will be to draw together representatives to join a Steering Group. If you would like to be a part of this group, please contact the Town Clerk at the Town Council Offices.
