On Monday, 11 May, I had the huge honour of becoming Marlborough's 710th Mayor. To be Mayor of my hometown and the town I love is very special for me. I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for their support and can promise them and the people of Marlborough that I will do everything I can to represent them and the town to the best of my ability.
I will also be working to help raise funds in these difficult times for my mayoral charities - Friends of Savernake Hospital and Marlborough Poverty Action Group. Both are important local charities making an enormous difference to the wellbeing of those in Marlborough.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the traditional Mayor Making ceremony could not be held which was a great shame, therefore I became Marlborough's first cyber Mayor with a ceremony on Zoom - a small claim to fame that I will always be very proud of!
I am also the Chairman of the Town Council and to make sure that decisions are still being made and the running of the town continues, I and other Councillors have held a number of meetings on Zoom including planning meetings and I have chaired meetings with Councillors and local traders on how Marlborough begins to the return to a new normal as the lockdown eases.
Because of the pandemic I have not been able to attend any civic functions as Mayor so I’m looking forward to announcing the winner of the Marlborough Virtual Open Gardens competition held by The Merchant’s House on 21 June from its beautiful garden.
