Honours even in the annual challenge golf match

Golf Mayor both captains

On Thursday, 15th October, our Mayor presented the Rose Bowl Challenge Trophy to the captains of both Marlborough Golf Club and the Town Council teams following a draw in the re-invigorated annual match between the two. The Town Council was delighted that its team was boosted by golfers from the 4th Military Intelligence Battalion with which the town has strong links. Following the match the Golf Club hosted a celebratory meal at the Clubhouse attended by players, Golf Club members and Councillors. The Rose Bowl was donated by Councillor Margaret Rose, a very appropriate gesture in her Mayoral year.

Marlborough Mop

The weather stayed fine for the Mops this year. Did you know the Mop Fairs were originally hiring fairs, but had become pleasure fairs by the mid 18th Century? Here are a few pictures from the opening ceremony, organised by the Showmen's Guild.

Introducing Marlborough's new Town Cryer!

tuppers2

We have a fabulous new Town Cryer!  Let us introduce you to Mr Michael Tupman, MBE.   He’s Marlborough’s well-loved and much respected former Special Constable.  At a short ceremony on Monday, 7th March, he was welcomed as a member of our Civic Team by the Town Mayor, Councillor Margaret Rose.   Alfie Johnson, who held the post for 21 years until he retired in 2015 officially relinquished the role and handed over the bell to his successor.  We are delighted to have appointed someone who is perfect for the role - a wonderful voice, real authority and a bit of a performer who will fit in perfectly with our Macebearers, Bob Dobie, Barry Mercer and Geoffrey Snelgrove.  Read more.

Youth Council Clean for the Queen

CClearn for the QueenBig well done to members of Marlborough Youth Council who turned out on a cold Saturday morning to litter pick as part of the Clean for the Queen campaign. Led by Cllr Lisa Farrell and supported by the Mayor, they worked up and down the High Street, the Rec at Salisbury Road and right up to Tesco collecting loads of rubbish. Lots of good feedback and appreciation from the public too. Your Majesty - Marlborough’s young people are among the very best.

Saturday is the new Sunday for Friends of the Victorian Cemetery

Clean Up SundaysOct15Still on a high from receiving a 'Thriving' It's Your Neighbourhood award from South West in Bloom for the Victorian Cemetery, the Friends are meeting this month on Saturday 17th October at 2 pm to continue their work on the Victorian Cemetery on the Common.

As well as general clean-up and cutting back activities, there will be a focus on making new paths and planting bulbs ready for spring. Anyone with an interest is welcome to come along - meet at the gates at 2 pm and if you have some tools you can bring along that will be a great help.
