Today the Union Flag is flying above Marlborough Town Hall in celebration of the 90th birthday of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II who was born on 21st April 1926. Our Town Mayor, Councillor Margaret Rose, said: "Today is to celebrate a great day for a great lady".

Churches Together and the Town Council will be marking the Queen's official birthday on Sunday, 12th June at St Mary's Church at a special Civic Service - A Celebration of our Queen and our Community. This will be a time of thanksgiving to bring the whole community together and a chance to look back at the parish over the last 90 years - a "then and now". Read more...
What are your memories of the last 90 years?
We are interested in hearing about your memories - what did the High Street look like in 1926 compared to how it looks now, what were we learning in school and reading in the newspapers, which families are still living in the town today and more.
Do get in touch and let us know and we will compile a small exhibition of your special Marlborough Memories.
Do you need help with your own celebrations?
If you are part of a community or voluntary group holding an event to celebrate our Queen's birthday, please get in touch. You may be eligible to apply for funding for this from our Small Grants Scheme. If you would like to apply, please let us know by Wednesday 11th May 2016. Apply here

Users of The Common may have walked past the memorial stone alongside the A346 without a second thought as the lettering has been unreadable for some time. Last year Neil Stevens contacted us as part of his research into USA GI's and in particular the history of the 347th Station Hospital that was based here from May 1944 to July 1945, looking into the possibility of restoring the stone. Marlborough man Mark Nash, a 3rd generation painter with a shared interest, volunteered his services. We hope you'll agree Mark has done a fantastic job and join with us in passing on our thanks.

There may well be lots of other celebrations being organised by neighbourhoods around the town and we'd like to know more about them and if anyone needs help in getting things started. In common with many towns, cities, organisations - and even ships - around the world, on Monday, 14th March, Marlborough took part in flying a flag to mark Commonwealth Day. Councillors gathered on the Town Hall steps in glorious early Spring sunshine and the Town Mayor read a message from Karmalesh Sharma, the Commonwealth Secretary General. This year's theme is 'An Inclusive Commonwealth', celebrating the belief and diversity of a Commonwealth of more than two billion people. 'Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth' is a way for people in local communities and from all walks of life to join in celebrating the Commonwealth with others throughout the world.
