Following this week’s announcement of pollution in the Marlborough area affecting 15km of the River Kennet, an update from the Environment Agency is at:
http://www.riverkennet.org/content/downloads/
The pollutant is Chlorpyrifos, an insecticide widely used on cereals, maize and grass.
The key message for Marlborough, especially for this warm weekend, is that river users avoid swimming, fishing or any other recreation in the river until levels have returned to normal. This advice applies to the river downstream from Elcot Lane.
Find out how Action for the River Kennet (ARK) helped to identify the problem and alert the EA at http://www.riverkennet.org/
