A new council term begins
What happens whenA new 4-year council term begins on 6 May and Town Councillors can formally take up office starting from this date. Notices of uncontested elections for the Marlborough East and West wards, published by Wiltshire Council, confirm who the Councillors are (see Notice of Uncontested Election pages 62 and 63).
Between 6 and 12 May each Councillor will be invited to meet with the Town Clerk to run through some formalities, the most important being to sign a declaration of acceptance of office which is the point at which they can officially take up their seat. This applies to all, regardless of whether they were Councillors prior to the election date on 1 May or are newly elected.
The first formal meeting for the Council is the Annual Town Council meeting on Monday, 12 May. At this meeting a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected, Committee memberships will be confirmed and Committee Chairs will be elected. Our calendar of meetings, where we publish all meeting papers (agendas and minutes) can be found here.
After 12 May we will update our website to introduce our new Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Town Councillors, show which wards they represent, list the committees they have joined and provide contact details. In the meantime if you have any questions please contact the office.
We look forward to welcoming them and to introducing them to you after 12 May.
