Rule of Law
Town Mayor leads ancient procession The High Sheriff of Wiltshire is appointed by the King to uphold and support the Crown, the Judiciary, Law Enforcement, emergency services and local authorities.
In the past one role of the High Sheriff was to host and offer protection to the travelling judges, and the Rule of Law procession was a way of demonstrating the power and majesty of the law to the people of the county. This procession was followed by a service in Salisbury Cathedral known as ‘Rule of Law’.
This year, our Town Mayor, Kym-Marie Cleasby was honoured to lead the Rule of Law procession accompanied by the Cryer and Macebearer.
Along with Mayors, Judges, Dr Olivia Chapple OBE High Sheriff of Wiltshire and Dame Sarah Troughton DCVO, HM Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire they processed from Salisbury Museum to the west door of the cathedral and then took part in a very moving service of thanksgiving.
