Our Christmas Switch On event is on Friday, 29 November. 

As we get closer to the event we want to help you plan your attendance and share information about parking, traffic and road closures - necessary to ensure a safe event for everyone attending.  We simply couldn't host this event without the aid of all the volunteer marshals who will be there on the day, and the following is a message to you on their behalf.

Last year you gave us some feedback about hold-ups caused by road closures as well as problems finding car parking.  Our team took this on board when planning the event and has made some changes this year.  For the details on each of these, please click or tap for more details about:

High Street Parking

High Street Parking

We have a fantastic festive market in the High St with 50 stalls of various sizes and descriptions stretching pretty much the length of our lovely long High Street.

We have reserved all the parking in the centre of the High Street from the Town Hall to St Peter’s to accommodate our market There will be NO PARKING in the centre of the High St, from 8am that day.

PLEASE PLEASE help us by removing your car from the central parking bays in good time, so that we can get the market set up and trading.

It’s hard enough to plot stalls and fit everyone in with a market of this size without the added hassle of cars blocking access. Your help to spread the word would be very much appreciated and will make our lives so much easier on the day…. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Road Closures

Road Closures

The High Street will be closed to traffic between 4-9pm.

Last year you told us that closing Hyde Lane caused lots of traffic issues. To help, this year Hyde Lane will be open to traffic in both directions.

There will be an informal crossing point at the bottom of Hyde Lane to allow children to safely visit Santa’s Grotto in St Peter’s – so please be patient if our volunteer marshals ask you to wait while the little ones make their way to and from their visit to Father Christmas.

Event Parking

Event Parking

Please walk or use public transport if possible, there will be pressure on town centre car parks. However, we have been offered the use of car parks around the outskirts of the town so that people can park closer to the High Street and then walk in.

Big thank you to the following for offering their car parks to help local people attend the event:

The fantastic team at T H White (London Road) have offered their car park after they close for business, from 5.30 onwards.

Marlborough Town Football Club (Elcot Lane) – their wonderful volunteers will be on hand to guide you - parking available from 6pm.

St George’s Preshute has kindly allowed the use of the church car park.
