Introducing "Solar SID"!There's a new Speed Indicator Device in town
Residents may have spotted "Solar SID" in Herd Street where it has been up and running for about a week. This device doesn't necessarily need the sunshine to flash messages to motorists as there's a battery back-up too.
In 2019 the Town Council purchased a Speed Indicator Device - known as SID - which has been rotated around various locations to monitor traffic speeds. SID will continue to be rotated with new sibling Solar SID providing an additional reminder to motorists to keep to the speed limits.
The data collected from SID is analysed by Councillors at Planning Committee meetings, and allows the Town Council to identify speeding hot spots, ask Wiltshire Council to conduct traffic surveys (previously known as metro counts) or even look at changing speed limits. It provides good data for the police to use too when setting up mobile speed check units.
