Running out of Time Relay and Great Big Green Week

Update: time confirmed for the #RunningOutofTime relay - the baton will be handed over at the Community Fridge in the George Lane car park at 6.35am on Friday, 7 October

It will be the world’s longest, non-stop relay ever attempted.  It’s being run in the name of climate action and it's passing through Marlborough.  This will follow the Great Big Green Week on 24-30 September.

RELAY

The relay will start in Glasgow, home of COP26 last year, on 30th September and finish in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on 6th November for the start of COP27, the next UN summit of world leaders discussing the climate crisis.  Runners, cyclists and sailors will carry a baton containing a climate message that'll be delivered to world leaders urging more support to help people tackle the climate crisis where they live.

The Wiltshire Connection

Along the UK section of the route, the charity Carbon Copy is throwing the spotlight onto 27 innovative projects showing how the innovation, collaboration and determination shown by community and local groups is already tackling the climate & biodiversity crises and building resilient communities.

The relay route is passing through Wiltshire because one of these projects is in the county and it just happens to be our very own Community Fridge.  One of our brilliant fridge volunteers, Mark Hedley, is leading a stage, running with the baton from the Fridge to The Bell at Ramsbury (approx. 10k).  Mark is fundraising for his part in the relay and you can also sign up to run with Mark….. if you are feeling that way inclined!!!  We hope you agree, this is an amazing initiative and one, we at the Fridge are very excited and proud to be part of.

If you are an early bird, please do come down and join us at the Fridge (from 6am onwards) on 7th October to help us give a very warm welcome to the incoming runners and wish Mark well on his leg of the journey.

GREAT BIG GREEN WEEK

The Great Big Green Week is the UK's biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.  It runs 24 September - 2 October 2022 and there's lots happening in Marlborough from clothes swaps to sustainable cooking to a repair cafe and more!  Find out more here
