 mber.</span></strong></p><p>Crofton Beam Engines will be open and steaming 
 on the last weekend of September. Opening times on both days, 10:00 – 16:30
 .</p><p>Come and see our magnificent beam engines at work lifting water to 
 the highest point on the Kennet and Avon Canal, just as they have done for 
 over 200 years. Watch these surprisingly quiet marvels of engineering and r
 emember that our Number One Engine was installed in 1812, the same year Nap
 oleon retreated from Moscow!</p><p>There is plenty for children of all ages
  to do at Crofton, as well as watching our volunteers and engines working, 
 they can enter a duck into our <strong>Duck Race </strong>which will take p
 lace on both days at 12:30. The ducks enter the water from Crofton’s massiv
 e pumps, rush into the stream and pass under our bridge, where the first du
 ck to arrive wins their entrant a prize of a free ticket to one of Crofton’
 s steaming days in 2025. We also have a miniature lock flight; children can
  fill the top lock with water and work the locks to let the water cascade t
 o the bottom.</p><p>Visitors are welcome to visit our Pop-up tea tent. They
  are also very welcome to use our picnic tables and enjoy the beautiful sce
 nery in which Crofton sits. You can visit the canal from Crofton and have t
 he chance to watch trains speed by.</p><p>Visitors can get to Crofton by ro
 ad or via the canal. We have a pay car park, those who walk or cycle along 
 the canal towpath can reach the site across canal bridge 101 and a short wa
 lk East along Dark Lane.</p><p><strong><span style="font-size: 18pt; color:
