Marlborough in Bloom is Scooping Awards!

The South West in Bloom awards are under way at Taunton Cricket Club today (Thursday 6th October).  This morning awards were handed out to community groups who had entered under the It's Your Neighbourhood category and Marlborough has done tremendously well! Congratulations and well done to Stonebridge Wild River Reserve, The Waterfront Association, the Community Orchard and the Merchant's House for picking up Outstanding recognition, and Thriving awards for Plume of Feathers, Manton and Cooper's Meadow.  Fingers crossed for more good news in this afternoon's awards!

We'll publish the official photos as they come in, but in the meantime we couldn't resist sharing these captured by Town Clerk Shelley Parker on her iPad.

Marlborough Golf Club takes the Trophy!

cropped golfThe annual golf match for the Rose Bowl Trophy was won this year by the team from Marlborough Golf Club. In spite of valiant efforts by the Town Council team, ably captained by Senior Groundsman, Ryan Atcherley, we conceded defeat to Marlborough Golf Club. Our thanks go to Ryan, Nigel Weatherly, Mike Tupman, Aaron Presley and the players from the 4th Military Battalion who made up our team.

The Mayor handed over the trophy to the home team giving his congratulations to the Marlborough Team Captain for his team's great performance. Our thanks go to the Club in particular Club Captain Trish King and to Alan Pryor for their hospitality in again hosting this event. We're already looking forward to next year's competition!

There's a meeting for retailers and businesses to discuss the Christmas Lights Switch-on, late night shopping, the Neighbourhood Plan and more. It'll be a chance to share ideas. Hosted by the MHSRA (Marlborough High Street Retailers Association), Chamber of Commerce and the Town Council, this meeting is a must for all Marlborough based retailers and businesses based in and around the High Street.

Save the date - Tuesday, 8th November, 6 pm in the Town Hall.

"Marlborough... site of a twice-weekly market, the High Street is one of the widest in the UK and lined on both sides with characterful old buildings housing an array of high quality shops. The town... remains vibrant and progressive with its own chic cafe culture and many independent shops" - VisitWiltshire.  Let's keep it that way!
