Market Day Bus ServicesVillages linked to Marlborough from 4 September
We're really pleased to learn that from 4 September the pre-bookable service will commence operating in our our area with market day services linking villages to Marlborough and Devizes.
On Wednesdays, the 211 service will run between Wilton and Marlborough, calling at East Grafton, West Grafton, Easton Royal, Milton Lilbourne, Wootton Rivers and Cadley. Some stops are pre-bookable, at others services can be accessed by request to the driver with no need to book. Full details are in the timetables (you'll find a link at the end of this article).
In addition, two timetabled services will commence on 30 October to link Marlborough with Devizes, and Marlborough with Great Bedwyn and Hungerford.
Our Mayor, Councillor Nicholas Fogg, said this was great news for people in the local area. He is a strong advocate for public transport and the environmental benefits of leaving the car at home, and over the past few years he has worked closely with passenger groups to lobby for improved services for Marlborough, in particular to re-establish a direct link with Devizes and ensure bus services are available for rail passengers at Great Bedwyn.
How does it work?
Unlike a typical bus service, Wiltshire Connect vehicles operate on a pre-bookable, on-demand basis, allowing you to travel between any designated pick up and drop off point within each zone. Rides can be booked using an app or by phone; 01225 712900 (web booking portal also coming soon) and the smart technology will match up your journey with any other passengers travelling in the same direction.
In addition to the pre-bookable on-demand service, Wiltshire Connect also operates a number of timetabled and semi-flexible services in the Pewsey Vale and Marlborough area.
