Happy RetirementAlan Brown
Alan Brown took up the role of Town Hall Caretaker in January 1999. Today, after 24 years in the role, family, friends, customers, colleagues and Councillors came together to wish him a very happy retirement.
Town Clerk, Richard Spencer-Williams welcomed everyone, thanked Alan - "a Marlborough treasure" - and introduced the Mayor, Councillor Nicholas Fogg.
The Mayor referred to "Caretaker" as a very appropriate title, as Alan had most certainly taken care: he had cared for the building, and cared for the people who used it, and he honoured him for his service and good humour, raising a toast to thank him for all his years of wonderful service. Sue Fry, Office Manager and Alan's line manager for the entire period of his service, thanked him too, shared a few anecdotes and echoed the rest of the team when she said he would be missed.
Always cheerful (and sometimes cheeky!) we will miss his knowledge, helpful efficiency and good humour. And it won't just be us. We have a file bursting with thank-yous and compliments from people who have held or attended events at the Town Hall.
Family, staff, Councillors and friends raised a glass in toast to wish him well: for once, he didn't have to tidy up afterwards!
