Traffic lights at London Road/George Lane

UKtrafficsign7001svgTraffic lights at the junctions of London Road/George Lane/Barn Street - an update

Late last year Thames Water agreed to postpone major sewage repair works in order not to disrupt important Christmas shopping trade for our retailers. The work was postponed until the spring, and we were told we would receive advance warning of when that would be programmed in as it was likely to take several weeks.

Yesterday there were long delays when 4-way traffic lights were set up at this busy double roundabout junction. We have spoken to the contractor today who has been very helpful. We thought you'd like to know:

Following a site visit between the contractor and Wiltshire Council on Monday the traffic lights have been rephased and the on site team will keep an eye on traffic volumes and adjust them accordingly

The work being carried out is to conduct CCTV surveys and cleaning of sewage pipes, at both major routes and some side streets.  More lengthy repair works may be required later in the spring depending on what they find.  As it only involves lifting of manhole covers (with no repairs and waiting time for concrete to set), if traffic disruption gets severe they can abort the work and quickly reinstate normal traffic flows

The team is now OFF the double roundabout so there should be less disruption today (Tuesday)

The traffic controls will be in place between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm - traffic flows before and after should be normal

The team is aware that Friday is often a busy day for traffic so will endeavour to programme in the work at side streets rather than major A roads for this Friday

The works should be complete by the end of this week
