Update on Services
10 June 2020
Coronavirus – COVID-19 –Town Council Services
When lockdown measures were introduced on 23 March to help combat the Coronavirus outbreak, the Town Council followed government guidance by closing its public buildings and open spaces as well as suspending some services. Staff have continued to work and have been available to answer queries and provide some services – our green open spaces and cemetery have been kept mown, maintained and litter free. We have also coordinated a Community Volunteer Scheme with more than 300 volunteers who have given up their time up to help the elderly and vulnerable across the town. Regular updates have been posted on our website and social media channels. Councillors have taken advantage of new legislation by holding meetings remotely so that council business continues - our new Town Mayor was even voted in online.
We have been looking forward to re-opening and we are now working to making our offices and public buildings COVID safe for staff, residents, visitors and future hirers of our venues as restrictions are lifted.
Council Offices at 5, High Street
From Monday, 15 June 2020, general enquiries can again be directed to email@example.com or by telephone at 01672 512487 as follows:
Monday-Thursday:10am–4pm and Friday:10am–2pm
Whilst social distancing and other COVID safe measures are put in place in our small offices, some staff will continue to work from home and can be contacted as usual via email and telephone. Next steps will be to welcome residents and visitors on an appointment basis and then re-open our offices and information point as guided by official advice.
Workshop at Salisbury Road Recreation Ground
Our Grounds Team continues to use this building as its base. No visitors are permitted into the building
All staff have access to PPE equipment and hand sanitizer.
Public Toilets at George Lane Car Park and the Town Hall
Our public toilets are now open at both sites. Our contractors, Healthmatic, gave all units a deep clean and the sites are COVID safe and currently cleaned twice daily.
Marlborough Common, Jubilee Field (Manton), Salisbury Road Recreation Ground, the Old Victorian Cemetery, Stonebridge Meadow, Coopers Meadow and Wye House Garden are open. (This does not apply to play areas within these spaces which remain closed)
This remains open and is being regularly mown and maintained. Please follow distancing rules and keep this as a place of tranquillity and respect. The cemetery or parts of it may be closed when our staff are working in there or preparing for burials and interments or during a funeral.
The Skatepark at the Salisbury Road Recreational Ground is now open for restricted use. Please follow social distancing information displayed at the site. The skatepark area is for skaters only and not for social gatherings.
The Town Council’s CCTV system remains operational.
The following remain closed to the public:
All Play Areas
Our play areas at Salisbury Road Recreation Ground, Jubilee Field (Manton), Orchard Road, Coopers Meadow and Wye House Garden remain closed until the government lifts restrictions. Please do not use the equipment – no safety inspections are taking place during the pandemic.
These gardens remain closed to protect vulnerable and elderly people living in very close proximity to the site.
Marlborough Town Hall - Marlborough Community & Youth Centre - Coopers Corner Community Room
These buildings remain closed to the public until the government lifts restrictions. Professional deep cleans are being arranged so that when they re-open, hirers can be confident that they are in a COVID safe environment. Work is taking place to introduce fixed hand sanitiser stations and sensible social distancing arrangements. Our Office Manager is in touch with those who have made bookings, keeping them up to date with changes as they happen and offering alternatives where possible.
During the pandemic, several Town Council-led events have been cancelled. As we move into summer and autumn, other events may also be postponed or cancelled, but until more guidance is available there is still uncertainly about what might and might not go ahead. We are working with event organisers and will post regular updates on our website and via our social media channels.
