Big Butterfly Count

cinnabar

Last weekend ARK held a Moth Night at Stonebridge on Saturday evening and on Sunday the Friends of the Old Ralway Path organised a butterfly walk just north of Ogbourne St George.  Among other things they spotted some Ringlets and a rather spectacular stripey catterpillar (the Cinnabar moth).

If you missed out don't worry - the Big Butterfly Count is taking place July 17 - August 9. Organised by Butterfly Conservation, a bit like the RSPB's big bird count it allows us all to share information so they can keep an eye on the nation's butterfly population. You can register and pick up a form at http://www.bigbutterflycount.org/ where there are instructions and a form to use.  There are 60 species of butterfly found in Britain and 2,500 species of moth – see how many you can spot.
