Government confirms plan for living with COVID.

Wiltshire Council is asking residents to take a cautious approach after the Government has unveiled its ‘Living with COVID’ plan, which will see all remaining legal restrictions related to the virus removed by Thursday 24 February 2022.

The main points are:

Until 1 April 2022, people who test positive are advised to stay at home. Adults and children who test positive are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for at least five full days and then continue to follow the guidance until they have received two negative test results on consecutive days.

The remaining restrictions in England will be removed from 24 February 2022. The legal requirement to self-isolate ends on this date also.
Self-isolation support payments, national funding for practical support and the medicine delivery service will no longer be available from 24 February 2022.
Routine contact tracing ends, including venue check-ins on the NHS COVID-19 app.
Fully vaccinated adults and those aged under 18 who are close contacts are no longer advised to test daily for seven days and the legal requirement for close contacts who are not fully vaccinated to self-isolate will be removed.

With the most recent changes announced as part of Plan B (https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus), in order to continue to provide a public service we will keep our office at 5 High Street open to walk-in enquiries during normal office hours rather than have all our office staff work from home. This situation will be reviewed regularly and may change if the COVID situation changes.

From 10 December anyone entering any of our buildings (5 High Street, Town Hall, Marlborough Youth & Community Centre) must wear a face covering unless exempt, and continue to observe good hygiene and distancing rules. We will review the situation regularly and provide any further updates via our website and social media channels.

England is moving to Plan B in response to the risks of the Omicron variant.

Wear a face covering in most indoor public places and on public transport
Get tested and self-isolate if required
Work from home, if you can
Get vaccinated
Let fresh air in if you meet indoors. Meeting outdoors is safer

The buzzer system at our front door at 5 High Street will no longer be used after 19 July - just push the door to come in during office hours.

From 19 July, people are expected and recommended to continue to wear face coverings in indoor enclosed spaces, such as public transport, unless they are exempt. Visitors are asked to wear a face covering when entering and exiting the Council Offices.

There will no longer be limits on the number of people who can attend weddings, civil partnerships, funerals and other life events (including receptions and celebrations). There will be no requirement for table service at life events, or restrictions on singing or dancing. You should follow guidance for weddings and funerals to reduce risk and protect yourself and others.
